NEW HAVEN KICKS OFF 2010 YOUTH @ WORK PROGRAM
(7/6/2010) NEW HAVEN-The City’s Youth @ Work summer program kicked-off this week with nearly 1200 New Haven teens, ages 14 to 24, beginning their first day of work at their designated sites. These teens underwent orientation last month to prepare for their five week job placement in various public and private agencies throughout the City.
“Youth @ Work continues to be an important program for City youth that provides critical training, experience and opportunities that will help our young people succeed in the future,” said Mayor John DeStefano, Jr. “Throughout the next five weeks, these young people will learn professional skills that they can use for the rest of their lives. This is also a great opportunity for business leaders and community members to serve as mentors by hosting Youth @ Work participants.”
Before beginning their first day of work, youth in this program participated in a week-long orientation program. This training program teaches financial literacy, communication skills, professionalism, conflict resolution, office etiquette and workplace conduct. Participants will apply these skills to their work in 85 sites throughout the City.
